One of the greatest contemporary theatre actor

Nisha Kalema, born in 1993 in Kawempe, Kampala, grew up with her step-family after her parents separated. Raised in both Christian and Muslim traditions, she ultimately chose Islam. Despite aspiring to be a footballer, she became a mother at 15. After her father’s death and her step-brother’s accident in 2012, Nisha completed her education, graduating in journalism and creative writing in 2013. She then turned to acting, achieving notable success with awards for her roles in “The Tailor” (2015) and “Freedom” (2016), the latter of which she also wrote. Her 2018 film, “Veronica’s Wish,” received twelve nominations, including a third Best Actress nod for Nisha.

Nisha kalema acted as Amelia in the freedom movie at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre (BGAC) is a £15 million purpose-built multi-arts centre, which includes a 274-seat auditorium, studio/rehearsal space, café/bar, enterprise centre and open spaces.
